The Mechanical Turk - Smart Chessboard Project

The Smart Chessboard Project, inspired by the original Mechanical Turk a famous 18th-century automaton that appeared to play chess but was secretly operated by a hidden human player. Unlike its historical namesake, this project brings real automation and intelligence to the chessboard.

The Mechanical Turk is an innovative fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. This project involves designing and building a high-quality wooden chessboard with automated piece movement, powered by a Raspberry Pi and a magnetic servo system beneath the board.

The goal is to create an interactive chess experience that allows players to compete against an AI opponent or play online matches via integration with the Chess.com API. Moves made on the physical board will be synchronized in real-time with the player's digital account, enabling seamless gameplay between physical and virtual environments.

This project combines mechanical engineering, robotics, API integration, and artificial intelligence, bringing a fresh and engaging perspective to chess enthusiasts who appreciate both craftsmanship and technology.
